Swiss Capitalmarket Forum 2024 – Beyond the Scandals: Reshaping Corporate Future* | 25. January 2024 | 14:00
Conference with Apéro Riche at the Zunfthaus zur Zimmerleuten, Limmatquai 40, 8001 Zurich, Switzerland
The corporate governance issues that contributed to Credit Suisse’s downfall include the Archegos case, which resulted in a $5.5bn loss due to poor risk management, the collapse of the Greensill fund, where the bank had assured investors of the low risk of these high-yield bonds (AT1 bonds), and the misleading statements made by Saudi National Bank as owner. Navigating the labyrinth of corporate governance in Switzerland, the event will show how Swiss boards of directors and executive management members are dealing with the current challenges in times of ongoing geopolitical tensions and a difficult regulatory environment, new reporting obligations and the revision of Swiss company law.
* Please note that the Event will be hold in German. However, we collaborate with Wordly – an AI-powered translation tool – that will translate the conference in your preferred language.
✔ Derailed governance: revealing the dark side of corporate scandals
✔ Navigating the labyrinth of corporate governance in Switzerland
✔ How do the BoD and the management optimally interact in the development of corporate governance?
Some examples of corporate governance failures:
✔ In the demise of FTX under Sam Bankman-Fried, corporate governance problems included the concentration of control in the hands of a few inexperienced executives, a complete lack of internal controls and record-keeping and inadequate accounting practices, and the commingling of client funds and misuse of funds.
✔ The recently publicised governance dilemma of OpenAI and Sam Altman with the intervention of the owner Microsoft clearly shows how difficult the governance balancing act is when the Board of Directors no longer trusts the management.
The conference is organised and moderated by Swiss Capitalmarketforum.
Who should participate?Board members, CEOs, CFOs, heads of legal of listed and private equity companies and holding companies, company owners, academics, NGOs and stakeholders in the sustainability sector, labour representatives, company founders, investors, asset managers, pension funds, family offices, banks, consultants, lawyers, tax advisors, auditors, supervisory authorities and tax officials.
